What's new on the 2023 Ford Explorer
The Explorer arrives for 2023 with minor revisions to the standard and optional features. Many options are available earlier in the lineup, and Red Jewel Metallic has been added as a color option.
2023 Ford Explorer - Performance
Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional with one exception. The Timberline includes all-wheel drive in its standard package. All models have a 10-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine: 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. With the ST trim and up, that engine is upgraded to a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6: 400 hp and 415 lb.-ft. With most trims, you also have the option of a hybrid powertrain that makes 318 hp and 322 lb.-ft.
Ford Explorer - Safety
The standard infotainment suite for the new Ford Explorer near Orlando includes an 8-inch touch screen with FordPass connected services, in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot, Android and Apple integration and a rearview camera. Navigation and a surround-view camera are optional and become standard later in the lineup. A 10.1-inch touch screen is also optional. The Ford Co-Pilot360 suite is standard and includes automatic high-beam headlamps, forward collision mitigation, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane departure mitigation, rear parking sensors and trailer sway damping. Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is optional with the XLT and standard beyond that point. It includes adaptive cruise control, a lane keeping system and evasive steering assist. Front parking sensors are optional with the ST and standard with the Limited, King Ranch and Platinum. The King Ranch and Platinum also have rear automatic braking.
Ford Explorer - Mechanical
Remote engine start is standard equipment. Keyless entry and push-button ignition are standard with the XLT trim level and up. The Timberline has a lifted, off-road suspension and a limited-slip differential. The ST has a sport suspension and quad exhaust, and this is the point in the lineup in which trailering equipment is standard. Maximum towing ranges from 5,000 to 5,600 pounds.
